Should women walk during pregnancy? Can they walk during pregnancy?

Pregnant women and their families face many questions of this kind.

Neighbors and relatives give different advice about this and sometimes the advice given confuses pregnant mothers more. But should a pregnant woman exercise?

Should a pregnant woman exercise?

According to experts from the Department of Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, women should do light physical exercise for 150 minutes or aerobic exercise per week during and after pregnancy.

During and after pregnancy, women should walk with the heel raised, and do this activity every day.

Women who were exercising before pregnancy should continue.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also says that women should do simple exercise or walk for 150 minutes during pregnancy.

Moderate exercise can help reduce, and even prevent completely, pre-eclampsia (a medical condition that occurs in some pregnant women that causes high blood pressure and increased protein in the urine that can damage the kidneys), diabetes, increased body weight, problems during childbirth, and postpartum depression.

Moderate exercise does not have a negative effect on a child's body weight or increase the risk of death.

According to the report of the Indian magazine, "The College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of the United States advises that a pregnant woman's labor should last at least 20 to 30 minutes."

By doing these exercises, pregnant women reduce the risk of diabetes, early delivery, reduce the blood pressure that frequently occurs in pregnant mothers (pre-eclampsia), and also reduce the possibility of the mother undergoing surgery during childbirth (CS).

"Exercising during pregnancy increases the chances of a mother giving birth in a normal way"

Gynecologist Bina Shah says, "During pregnancy women should not do exercise like jumping, running, but they should walk every day.

A woman with bleeding problems during her pregnancy or if the uterus has dropped down should not walk."

"Women who are pregnant with twins or more children should not go out for a walk.

Women who have had a problem with pregnancy before giving birth should also not do walking exercises."

"Shoes and clothing should be considered when they walk, you should not wear big clothes or wear high-heeled shoes, only sports shoes." he advises.

"A pregnant woman should walk on the side of the road, in a path that does not have potholes, water, and in an area with fresh air. The garden is the best place for a pregnant woman to walk.

In addition, he says, "Walking makes the body strong and improves blood circulation." Crawling exercises do not cause swelling of the feet.”

"A woman who is fitter during pregnancy is more likely to have a normal delivery."

'Exercise for 20 to 30 minutes every day'

Dr. Shiksha Gupta says, "Women should walk and exercise for 20-30 minutes. Exercise makes a woman strong, so she can't have problems during childbirth."

"During pregnancy, doctors advise women to do certain types of exercise. Avoid doing exercises watching videos on You Tube, it is dangerous. You should get advice from a physical therapist (Physiotherapist)."

Women's reproductive health specialist at Allantis Healthcare, in New Delhi, Manan Gupta says, "These exercises help a woman to make her body strong and also prepare her body for the pain of childbirth and the act of giving birth itself. "

While cesarean delivery reduces the risk of delivering babies with low body weight or early delivery.

In addition, exercise can also cause many health benefits such as preventing back pain, heartburn and bloating, inflammation of the body, especially the legs and fatigue. It also helps women to sleep", say experts.
