Coconut alcohol, known by several local names, is an alcoholic drink made from the sap of various types of palms and coconuts.

"If you are looking for a good source of drink to help fight any cardiovascular disease, then you may need to drink coconut alcohol," Collins Akanno.

Akanno believes that the purpose of potassium minerals in the alcohol helps the nerves and muscles to work properly and that these warm nerves and muscles ensure a good heartbeat, which lowers blood pressure.

However, Omonhinmin says there is no scientific basis for these claims and explains that the drink contains alcohol and breastfeeding mothers are advised not to drink alcohol.

 Does coconut alcohol cause stomach ulcers?

 Despite the fact that the drink contains about 5% alcohol, Collins Akanno says it does not cause ulcers.
