 They are an important source of protein because they contain essential amino acids for a healthy diet.

 People are advised to eat eggs for eye health. Their core contains a large amount of carotenes, especially lutein and zeaxanthin, which are the best in preventing various eye diseases. 

 Eggs are also a source of Vitamin A, which is important for good eyesight.

Are eggs safe for everyone?

Salmonella food poisoning can be caused by eating raw or undercooked eggs. However, due to changes in egg production, the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued new recommendations. 

Current advice confirms that infants, children, pregnant women and the elderly can eat raw or partially cooked eggs as long as the eggs are processed to a high standard. 

Eggs are also among the types of foods that can cause allergies. Children may be among the most likely to develop an allergy to eggs.

Although most children can avoid allergies by the time they start school, some of them continue to be affected by them until later in their childhood and sometimes into adulthood.
